Sleeping Bear Dunes Destination Wedding
Many people choose the Traverse City area for their wedding because it's just, well, beautiful. Just about everywhere you turn there's scenic views everywhere. And Emma and Michael chose one of the prettiest views in the area: the Lake Michigan Overlook at Sleeping Bear Dunes. If you've never been, it's this massive 500ft sand dune on the shores of Lake Michigan that has unparalleled views, sand for miles, and rolling hills of beach grass as far as the eye can see. It's truly breathtaking and it's no wonder this couple chose this amazing spot for their wedding day.
However, the weather can be unpredictable in Michigan. Like, minute to minute changes. On my drive up to the dunes that morning, the fog was over the hill tops and looked just so gorgeous. But, it kept getting denser, and denser until you got to the overlook where the ceremony was to take place and...it was the thickest fog I've ever seen or been in. You couldn't see two feet in front of you, never mind the incredible 500ft drop below you, or the miles of shoreline!
But, the fog only enhanced the romantic setting for these two to exchange their vows and of course made for one memorable wedding day! Here's a few from their day...
After the ceremony, we made our way to a few other spot in the dunes that I love to photograph at. I was thinking the lower elevation would maybe get us out of the clouds a little bit and the fog wasn't nearly as heavy here, but still quite thick in the background!
